A recent AFVHF nursing study found that veterans homes were experiencing a nursing staff vacancy rate of approximately 10%. This finding was of sizeable concern to the Foundation, given the growing shortage of nurses being experienced nationally. The Armed Forces Veterans Homes Foundation subsequently launched a national policy study, co-funded with the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, on best management practices which would result in improved nurse retention and recruitment. For a list of the Nursing Task Force Panel, click here. Study findings have been presented to the National Association of State Veterans Homes. The paper, authored by Dr. Michael Creedon may be obtained below. Follow-up studies and extension of findings are being evaluated by the Institute Advisory Council.
