The Armed Forces Veterans Homes Foundation has formed a partnership with the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation and offers all Veterans Homes the widely-respected Senior Crimestoppers Program (SCP) at no cost. SCP greatly reduces the number of incidents of theft, vandalism, workers compensation fraud, patient abuse, and patient neglect. SCP operates through the anonymous reporting of information on toll free, 24 hour-per-day "hot lines," and rewards of up to $1,000. SCP also provides each resident with a free lockbox for the safekeeping of personal property. In 2004, Veterans Homes enrolled in the Senior Crimestoppers Program had an 83% reduction in crime-related incidents! The Board of Directors of the Veterans Homes Foundation believes the record speaks for itself - and that SCP significantly improves the quality of life for the residents in Veterans Homes. The Board also believes that there are significant benefits for the families of residents because of the peace of mind they will be able to enjoy from the knowledge that their loved one is living in a more protected and secure environment. Another important offering of Senior Crimestoppers is a reminiscence therapy program for residents. The Times of Your Life is a multimedia display with accompanying video tapes, which allow veteran residents to reflect back on the happy times of earlier years.
