The 44 State Veterans Homes now participating in the Senior
Crimestoppers Program are reporting a 93.5% reduction in the number of crime incidents
since enrolling in the program. The Veterans Homes Foundation’s partnership with
the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation provides this nationally–recognized
program at no cost.
Crimestoppers’ effectiveness derives from the premise that a community watching out
for itself is a safer place to live. Should crime occur at a State Veterans Home,
reward posters are displayed throughout the Home. Persons having knowledge of the
incident call a national hotline center, with a reward being offered should the incident
be resolved favorably.
Not only is Crimestoppers effective in solving crimes, but it is a large deterrent
in the prevention of crime. Criminals think twice before victimizing a Veteran Home
resident because they know someone is always watching!
Senior Crimestoppers also benefits family members, who greatly appreciate the added
safety and security that their loved one is receiving in a protected community.
Illinois Veterans Home at Quincy becomes a charter member of the Senior Crimestoppers
program.
Staff and residents of the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Homes receive their
Crimestoppers charter.
